A wildfire burning in southwest Yukon is threatening a wilderness lodge and cabins, and is visible from the Alaska Highway near the White River. Wildfire activity increased significantly on Sunday due to hot and dry weather.

The Yukon-wide level 2 fire restriction put in place on August 7 has been lifted. This is due to decreasing fire danger risk in the forecast and a low fire response load over the weekend.

Wildland Fire Management is planning a prescribed burn to take place this afternoon (August 12, 2024) on the Whitehorse South Fuel Break.

A wildfire burning north of Lake Laberge on the Thirty Mile section of the Yukon River is causing smoky conditions.

Wildland Fire Management and fire departments across the Yukon have responded to four human-caused fires in the past 48 hours since a fire ban was put in place.

Wildland Fire Management has put a level 2 fire restriction in place across the territory.

This notice has been updated on Aug. 6 to reflect changing conditions. Originally planned for Thursday, the burn will be postponed until early next week.

Ignitions specialists from Yukon Wildland Fire are preparing a burn plan for a prescribed fire of two defined areas north of the Wrong Lake fire (MA-006).
