Wildfire bulletins

Wildland Fire Management has put a level 2 fire restriction in place for the Beaver Creek, Haines Junction, Carmacks, Ross River, Dawson, Mayo and Old Crow fire districts.

Poor visibility from smoke has caused a closure of the North Klondike Highway between Pelly Crossing and Stewart Crossing.

Wildland Fire is responding to a wildfire 14 km north of the Minto Lake recreation site.

Prescribed burning is planned in the Watson Lake area starting as early as Monday, June 10.

Wildland Fire Management is working with the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyak Dun (NND) to improve wildfire resiliency by leading a prescribed burn to remove flammable grassy fuel from the ground in NND’s Old Village.

Wildland Fire Management is planning to burn piles of woody debris from FireSmart work along Mt. Sima Road when low fire danger conditions allow.

Prescribed burning is planned in the Haines Junction area starting as early as Monday, April 29.

Wildland Fire Management crews will be removing hazardous dry grass from around the Kluane Fire Centre and Parks Canada building.

Each spring there is increased wildfire risk because melting snow exposes last fall’s dead surface litter.

Wildland Fire Management is planning to start annual prescribed burns next week in the Whitehorse area. Burning could begin as early as Monday, April 29.
