New strategic framework for French-language services released

The Government of Yukon has released its third strategic framework for French-language services. The 2023–25 roadmap will help guide the Yukon government’s actions and investments to keep current with the evolving priorities of the growing Yukon Francophone community.

Statement from Minister of Health and Social Services on National Nurse Practitioner Week

Minister of Health and Social Services Tracy-Anne McPhee has issued the following statement:

“This week is National Nurse Practitioner Week, an opportunity to honour the important work of nurse practitioners in the Yukon and across the country.

"Nurse practitioners are skilled health care professionals who work together with the healthcare team using a patient-centered approach to care. Through an emphasis on wrap-around support and evidence-based practices, nurse practitioners enhance community health care for all Yukoners.

Extension of deputy minister

Premier Ranj Pillai is pleased to announce an extension for Michael Prochazka as the acting deputy minister for the Department of Economic Development. Mr. Prochazka has been serving as the acting deputy minister since May 2023 and will continue to act in the position for an additional six months.

Statement from Minister McPhee on World Pneumonia Day

Minister of Health and Social Services Tracy-Anne McPhee has issued the following statement:

"The Yukon stands with the global community to mark World Pneumonia Day, observed every year on November 12. Across the world, pneumonia is one of the leading infections of children and adults – and Canada is no exception.

“Pneumonia is a lung infection that can be caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi and other kinds of exposure. Early treatment can save lives. We can prevent it with some vaccines and treat it based on the cause.

Statement from Premier Pillai on Diwali

Premier Ranj Pillai has issued the following statement: 

“As the festival of Diwali illuminates our lives next week, I extend my warmest wishes to all Yukoners joining the millions of people around the world who will be celebrating.

“Diwali is a major celebration in Hinduism, Sikhism and Jainism. The festival not only lights up homes with the warm glow of diyas but also symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil.

Government of Yukon launches five-year Innovation Strategy to grow innovation, drive investment and diversify the economy

The Yukon has long been a place of innovation, creativity and the pursuit of solutions and new ways of doing things. The Government of Yukon is following in this path laid by generations of Yukon leaders and thinkers, releasing a five-year strategy that will shape how the government supports and enables innovative practices across the territory.

Test of AlertReady emergency messaging system planned for November 15

 

The Emergency Measures Organization will be issuing a test of the AlertReady system at approximately 1:55 pm (Yukon time) on Wednesday, November 15.

The test will be broadcast on cellphones, radio and televisions across the Yukon. Regular testing of the emergency alerting system is important to ensure that critical information can be issued to Yukoners during an emergency.

This test is also an important reminder to have an emergency plan and an emergency kit for your family or household. Emergency preparedness is everyone’s responsibility.

Joint statement from Minister McPhee and Minister Streicker on the 1st Year Anniversary of Centre de Santé Constellation Health Centre

Minister of Health and Social Services Tracy-Anne McPhee and Minister responsible for French Language Services Directorate John Streicker have issued the following statement:

“Today marks a significant milestone as we celebrate the first-year anniversary of the Centre de Santé Constellation Health Centre. This health care facility, which began its journey in the Nuvo Building at 102-4149 4th Avenue, has since transitioned to its permanent home at 9010 Quartz Road in Whitehorse.
